Jordan McNamara now a member of the American sub-4 minute mile club...

Auburn Riverside graduate Jordan McNamara (left/file photo by Paul Merca), currently competing for the University of Oregon, became the latest American to join the sub-4 club, as he broke four minutes in the mile for the first time at Thursday night's all-comers track meet at Eugene's Hayward Field.

With Oregon Track Club Elite's Tom Brooks, a 2007 world championships team member in the steeplechase doing the pace setting, McNamara, who finished tenth in the 1500 at the USA Outdoor Championships last month, and eleventh at the NCAA Championships, ran 3:59.87 to become one of over 320 Americans to crack that magical barrier (note that the list was last updated in March).

On his Facebook page, McNamara, who once attended the University of Washington before transferring to Oregon via Lane Community College in Eugene, wrote, "3:59.87!!! Officially a sub 4 miler!! Big thanks to everyone who supported or showed up!"
