Martin Bingisser wins Swiss national title in hammer...

LOCARNO, Switzerland--Former University of Washington All-American Martin Bingisser (left/photo courtesy won the men's hammer throw competition in the Swiss national championships Saturday.

Bingisser, who has dual US/Swiss citizen status, took command of the competition early with his first round throw of 207-7 (63.27m), and extended it with a toss of 212-8 (64.82m) in round 2.

After three consecutive fouls, Bingisser, who attended high school at Bellevue's Interlake HS, spun the ball and chain over the 66-meter mark, with his final round throw of 216-7 (66.03m).

Before the competition, Martin blogged about the Swiss national championships, which you can read here.

Bingisser will compete later in the shot put in Lugano (the hammer was contested off site in Locarno), where he is seeded fifth. Another former Husky, Christian Belz, is scheduled to compete in the men's 5000 meter run. Belz has already been selected for the Swiss team for the European championships at the end of the month in Barcelona, Spain, while Bingisser has not.
