In New York, Western Washington's Sarah Porter made her professional debut at Saturday's NYRR New York Mini 10k through Central Park, finishing 24th in a time of 34:55, finishing one spot ahead of 2004 Olympic marathon bronze medalist Deena Kastor, making her return to racing after a maternity leave.

Porter won the NCAA Division II title in the 10000 two weeks ago to cap her collegiate career, a race she almost didn't get to run in, due to questions by the NCAA concerning her participation in the Rhody Run 12k the week before in Port Angeles.
