Weekend roundup: Ginnie Crawford opens 2013 in Moscow at Russian Winter Meeting...

MOSCOW, Russia--Ginnie Crawford (left/photo by Paul Merca) began her 2013 season with a third place finish in the trials at the Russian Winter meeting on Sunday.

Crawford, the graduate of Rainier Beach HS, ran 8.17, the sixth fastest time from the heats but did not advance to the finals.

Yuliya Kondakova of Russia was the overall winner in 7.93 in the finals.

At Saturday's Vandal Collegiate meet in Moscow, Idaho,  Washington State University athletes won four events in a meet that involved most of the state's division I and II schools.

Gonzaga athletes won three of four distances races on the docket--both the men's and women's 3000, and the men's mile.

In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Washington's Kasen Covington had a big season-best leap of 49-9 ¼ (15.17m) on his sixth attempt to take second. The Huskies' Kasen Williams got into the triple jump for the first time, going 46-10 ¼ (14.28m) as he tries to regain his rhythm in the tricky event in which he set the Washington high school state record back in 2011. Julian Bardwell was unable to get a legal mark in the triple.
