Eastern Washington & SeattleU kick off conference championship week Wednesday...

Championship week begins Wednesday for Eastern Washington and Seattle University as the two schools head to Greeley, Colorado and Lawrence, Kansas for the Big Sky and Western Athletic Conference championship meets.

Eastern Washington heads to Greeley led by seniors Katie Mahoney (left/photo by Paul Merca) and Kaytlyn Coleman with hopes on improving its fifth place finish at last year’s championship meet which the Eagles hosted in Cheney.

Both Mahoney and Coleman will be in action on Friday, as Mahoney contests the steeplechase, and Coleman throws the hammer.  Mahoney is also entered in the 800.  Coleman, the conference leader in the hammer, will also contest the shot put on Saturday.

On the men’s side, sprinter Jeremy VanAssche, the conference champion indoors at 60 meters, leasd the Eagles in the 100, 200, and 4x100 meter relay.  Pole vaulter Larry Still looks to add the outdoor title to the indoor crown.

Seattle University will be led by its three indoor champs—Shaddye Melu in the high jump and 400, Mandie Maddux in the pentathlon, and Lila Rice in the mile.

Melu and Maddux both lead the WAC conference in the high jump.
