Ex-Washington Husky Märt Israel seventh in London...

LONDON, England--Former Washington Husky Märt Israel (left/photo by Paul Merca) from Estonia finished seventh in the discus Saturday on the second day of the Aviva London Grand Prix meet at Crystal Palace.

After fouling his first attempt, Israel got the discus out close to the 63-meter mark, as the platter fell to the ground 206-7 (62.97m) later.

Israel's two subsequent throws were close--206-1 (62.82m), and 205-9 (62.71m), but not far enough to put himself in contention.

Countryman Gerd Kanter took the victory, setting a meet record of 222-6 (67.82m) with his third round toss.

The top American in the competition was Casey Malone of Colorado, the reigning US champion, who threw 213-9 (65.16m) to place fourth.

Current Husky freshman sprinter James Alaka suited up for his native Great Britain to run a leg of the 4x100-meter relay. Unfortunately, Alaka's team was unable to keep the baton off the track, and the foursome did not finish.
