Nageotte extends outdoor personal best to 15-9 in winning in Beckum...

In Beckum, Germany, Pullman resident Katie Nageotte (left/photo by Paul Merca) tuned up for Thursday’s IAAF Diamond League women’s pole vault finals at the Zürich Weltklasse meet by setting a new outdoor personal best Sunday at the Internationales Stabhochsprung Beckum.

Nageotte, the graduate of NCAA Division II Ashland University in Ohio, cleared 15-9 (4.80m) on her third attempt to win the competition over a field that included runner-up Ninon Guillon-Romarin (15-5/4.70m) and third place finisher and reigning world indoor champ Sandi Morris, who cleared the same height (15-5/4.70m).

After easily clearing the first two bars (14-8.25/4.48m, and 15-1/4.60m) on her first attempt, Nageotte needed a clutch third attempt clearance at 15-5 to stay alive in the competition, as both Guillon-Romarin and Morris had successful makes on their second attempt.

Facing a possible third place finish, Nageotte got the victory by clearing the eventual winning height on her third attempt, as both Guillon-Romarin and Morris were unsuccessful at 15-9.  She took three unsuccessful attempts at a new personal best of 16-1.75 (4.92m), which would have eclipsed her indoor PR of 16-1.25 (4.91m).

Nageotte topped her previous outdoor personal best of 15-7 (4.75m), set twice this season, most recently at the NACAC championships in Toronto on August 11th.
