Trio of Huskies in Espoo, Finland for European Under-23 Championships...


A trio of current Huskies are in Espoo, Finland for this week's European Athetics Under 23 championships that go until Sunday.

Sophie O'Sullivan (photo courtesy Athletics Ireland), who won the 1500 for Ireland at the European Team Championships Third Division meet in Silesia, Poland on June 22nd, is entered in the women's 1500 as one of the favorites, based on her personal best of 4:08.06, which she ran at the NCAA West regional meet in Sacramento at the end of May.

O'Sullivan runs in the women's 1500, with the prelims on Saturday the 15th at 11:15 am local time (1:15 am in Seattle), and the finals the next day at 6:25 pm local time (4:25 am in Seattle).

Two other Huskies will be competing for their countries on Saturday. 

Ollie Thorner, the reigning Pac-12 decathlon champion, will represent Great Britain in the two-day decathlon that starts Saturday at 10:00 am local time (midnight in Seattle), while sprinter Anthony Smith will run the 200 for TĂĽrkiye, with the first round starting at 6:50 pm local time (8:50 am in Seattle).

Should Smith advance past the first round, the semis will be contested Sunday at 11:30 am local time (1:30 am in Seattle), with the finals at 5:55 pm local time (7:55 am in Seattle).

TRIPPAS RUNS SEASON BEST IN LIEGE...

In Liege, Belgium, Washington grad student Ed Trippas ran a season best in the steeplechase Wednesday night at the Meeting International D'Athletisme De La Province de Liege.

Trippas, who won the Pac-12 steeplechase crown for the Huskies and finished ninth at the NCAA championships last month, ran 8:27.12, as Nahuel Carabana of Andorra won in 8:23.83.
