Ray Ray Wells scheduled to make outdoor season debut at Miramar Invitational...
In talking to Wells' coach Eric Metcalf several weeks ago as they prepared for the USATF indoor championships, their primary concern going into the outdoor season was how to expand what they've learned from the indoor season and running 60 meters to running a full 100 meters--most notably how to maintain the speed built up from the first half of the race.
Wells will run against a field that includes heavy hitters Ronnie Baker, Kyle King, Aaron Brown, Brendon Stewart and Yohan Blake.
The first round of the men's 100 will be contested at 11:51 am local time (8:51 am Pacific), with the finals held less than two hours later at 1:35 pm local time (10:35 am Pacific).
Most of Washington's Division I and II schools are in action starting Friday fairly close to home, with Washington State, Eastern Washington and Gonzaga starting the weekend off at the Whitworth Peace Meet hosted by Whitworth University at the Pine Bowl, starting at 12:45 pm with the women's 10000 meters.
The meet also features teams from the University of Idaho, Lewis-Clark State, Montana State-Billings, Eastern Oregon, and Whitman.
Meanwhile, Seattle Pacific makes the short trip to Renton Stadium to host Western Washington and Seattle University at the Doris Heritage Invitational starting at 3 pm.
This meet honors the legacy of Heritage, who graduated from and coached at Seattle Pacific. She was a two-time Olympian, who won five straight international cross country titles from 1967-71, and at one juncture owned every American and world record from the 440 to the mile (prior to when all events were converted to metric measurements).
Heritage, who went on to become a long-time coach of the Falcons, is a member of six national halls of fame and is a charter member of the Falcon Legends Hall of Fame.
Central Washington and Saint Martin's will head south to Monmouth, Oregon for the John Knight Twilight meet, starting at 4 pm with the women's 4 x 100 meter relay.

Finally, the University of Washington will travel the furthest this weekend, as they send a small group back to the Bay Area for the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Edwards Stadium on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley.
Events get underway at Edwards Stadium beginning at 8:30 am.
