Andrea Geubelle takes early national lead in triple jump...

LAWRENCE, Kansas--The 2013 indoor track season may only be one weekend old, but Andrea Geubelle (left/photo courtesy University of Kansas) is making folks around the country know that the road to the NCAA championship in the triple jump goes through her.

The University of Kansas senior from Tacoma's Curtis High School let everyone know that she is the one to beat, as the defending indoor collegiate champion won her specialty at the Bill Easton Classic at the Anschutz Sports Pavilion Saturday to open the Jayhawks' indoor track and field season.

Geubelle, who finished third at the US Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, after losing out on the outdoor NCAA title on a disputed call in Des Moines, won with a nation-leading mark of 43-2 1/4 (13.16m) on her second jump of the day.

Geubelle's jump Saturday was a career best season opener.

Earler in the meet, she ran 7.71 in the 60 meter dash to finish fifth overall behind four Jayhawk teammates.
