Eastern Washington alum Mattie Suver earns podium finish for Team USA in Edinburgh...
EDINBURGH, Scotland--Eastern Washington University alum Mattie Suver (left/photo by Jim Estes, USA Track & Field) finished third in Saturday's BUPA Great Edinburgh Cross Country International Challenge meet at Holyrood Park.
Running over a 6k course, Fionnuala Britton of Ireland took the victory in a time of 20:40, with Adrienne Herzog of the Netherlands second in 20:56, and Suver four seconds back.
In the three-team women's international challenge, Team Europe took the title with a low score of 35 points, with Great Britain second at 64, and the USA third at 75 points.
In the men's 8k race, Bellingham native and Stanford alum Jake Riley finished 7th in a time of 24:50,
USA teammate and past world cross country team member Bobby Mack took the victory, winning in a time of 24:27 over Spain's Ayad Lamdassem by a second.
The 1-7 finish by Mack and Riley led Team USA to the victory over Europe 49-65, with Great Britain third with 67 points.
The USA also scored a podium finish in the men's junior race, as Craig Nowak from Oklahoma State University finished third over a 6k distance, running 19:03 in a tightly contested race to lead the US juniors to a second place finish.
