Cougs' Brock Eager continues early season roll in hammer at Sam Adams Classic...

SPOKANE—Washington State’s Brock Eager (above/photo courtesy WSU Athletics) continued where he left off in Los Angeles at last week’s USC Invitational, as the Pac-12 Field Athlete of the Week improved upon his conference leading mark in the hammer, winning the event at the Sam Adams Classic hosted by Whitworth University Thursday.

Competing in blustery and rainy conditions, Eager threw 220-6 (67.22m) for the victory, as Tim Beard of Eastern Washington took second at 189-9 (57.85m), and WSU’s Wyatt Meyring was third at 189-4 (57.70m).

Central Washington’s Kodiak Landis won four events to take the first day lead in the men’s decathlon, with a score of 3813 points.

Landis won the 100 (10.75/917), long jump (22-0.25/6.71m-746), shot put (41-8/12.70m-649), and 400 (49.29-848), and tied for fifth in the high jump (6-0/1.83m-653).

In other events, Jordan Thurston of Gonzaga won the women’s 5000 in 17:23.98; Washington State’s Aoife Martin took the women’s hammer (174-8/53.23m); WSU’s Zak Kindl won the men’s 5000 (15:19.26); and Andrew Bloom of host Whitworth won the javelin (204-11/62.46m).
