Huskies take six, while Cougars earn four wins at outdoor season opener at USC...

LOS ANGELES—Washington’s Hanna Tarleton (above/photo courtesy UW Athletics) was one of six Huskies who won their events at the USC Invitational Saturday at Loker Stadium on the campus of the University of Southern California.

Tarleton, competing in the 400 hurdles for the first time since scoring in the 2015 NCAA Division III championships for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, won the race in 58.85, with teammate Carly Lester second in 59.14, as both recorded personal bests.

Other Washington winners included Chase Smith and Annika Dayton in the men’s and women’s pole vault (17-4.5/5.30m) and (13-1.75/4.01m); Denham Patricelli in the men’s javelin (215-2/65.58m);  and the women’s 4 x 400 team of Tarleton, Iman Brown, Carolyn Birkenfeld and Imani Apostle (3:40.47).

Washington got a win on the meet’s opening night Friday from Jose Padilla in the discus (179-5/54.7m)

Washington State got wins from triple jumper Greer Alsop (40-5/12.32m), Nick Johnson in the 110 hurdles (14.26), the men’s 4 x 100 relay of Zach Smith, Ja’Maun Charles, Ray Littles, and Ethan Gardner (40.82); and, Brock Eager in the mens’ hammer (218-2/66.50m) on Friday night.
