Both Husky harrier teams remain in USTFCCCA national top 30...
NEW ORLEANS--There were no major moves in the latest USTFCCCA Division I national women's and men's coaches' poll released on Tuesday.
On the women's side, the University of Washington Huskies remain the country's number 8 ranked team, even though they will not begin competition until after the start of the new year.
The nation's top five women's squads in order are: Arkansas, NC State, BYU, New Mexico, and Stanford.
Other teams from the Pac-12 include number 7 Colorado, number 18 Utah, number 22 Oregon State and number 25 Oregon.
Squads from the West region in the national top 30 include number 13 Boise State and number 30 Cal Baptist, the defending Western Athletic Conference champ.
Andy Powell's Washington men's team remains at number 18 in the national poll.
The nation's top five teams remain the same from the poll released on November 3rd: number 1 Northern Arizona, followed in order by BYU, Arkansas, Notre Dame and Tulsa.
Pac-12 teams that are ranked in the national top 30 include number 6 Stanford, number 9 Colorado, and number 13 Oregon.
Number 10 Portland is the only non Pac-12 team from the West region that is ranked. Gonzaga and Washington State did receive votes, but finished outside the national top 30.
The University of Washington is tentatively scheduled to host the Pac-12 cross country championships on March 5th at the Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, south of Tacoma.
The NCAA D1 cross country championships are scheduled for March 15, 2021 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, hosted by Oklahoma State University.
The USTFCCCA poll is scheduled to resume in mid-February. The USTFCCCA release is available here.
HUSKIES GO TIME TRIALING...
It's been said that what you do in a time trial doesn't mean a lot until you actually replicate it in a real race.
That said, the Washington distance crew ran a series of time trials last Friday (11/20) at the Dempsey Indoor, highlighted by five men under 14 minutes for 5000 meters.
Redshirt freshman Joe Waskom got the win in a big PR of 13:51.3. That's a time that would rank him sixth in school history. He was followed under 14 minutes by Talon Hull in 13:53, Mick Stanovsek in 13:54, Tibebu Proctor in 13:57 and Andrew Jordan in 13:58.
In the mile time trial, NCAA qualifier Allie Schadler ran 4:33 behind volunteer assistant coach Alli Cash, while Oregon transfer Taylor Chiotti, who was on the Ducks' NCAA team in the distance medley, ran a PR 4:39. The men were led by sophomore Daniel Maton, who broke 4 minutes for the first time, running 3:59.6.
Washington's release is available here.
