RIETI, Italy--On a hot day in the Italian city, incoming University of Washington freshman Amy-Eloise Neale (left/photo by Paul Merca), representing Great Britain, finished fifth in the finals of the junior women's 3000 meter steeplechase at the European Athletics Junior Championships.

Neale, the recent graduate of Glacier Peak HS in Snohomish, stayed off the early pace set by Sweden's Maria Larsson and finished in a time of 10:19.32, just off her personal best time of 10:13.74 set in the semifinals on Thursday.

Oona Kettunen from Finland took the victory in a time of 9:45.51, a new national junior record, as all three medalists--Marusa Mismas of Slovenia, and Maya Rehberg of Germany either set national records or personal bests.
