Day 1 of the NCAA Championships...
DES MOINES, Iowa--Looks like the weather will play a factor in today's competition at the NCAA Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium here in Des Moines.
We're supposed to have thunderstorms, and high winds. As I look out the window before heading to the track, I've seen lightning...let me put it another way--this has the makings of the 2004 NCAA meet in Austin, which was interrupted by bad weather.
Among Washington athletes competing today are Norris Frederick in both the high jump and long jump; Jordan Boase in the 400, and the 4 x 100m relay; Jared O'Connor in the pole vault; Austin Abbott in the 800; James Frederickson in the 400 hurdles & the 4 x 1; and Carl Moe in the 3000 steeplechase.
Washington State counters with Trent Arrivey in the high jump; McKenzie Garberg in the discus; Ebba Jungmark in the high jump; Jeshua Anderson & Barry Leavitt in the 400 hurdles; Sara Trane & Meghan Leonard in the 3000 steeple.
We'll have a recap at the end of today's competition...assuming the full schedule is completed.
