UNPLUGGED WITH: Sammy Wanjiru...

SAN FRANCISCO--2008 Olympic marathon champion Sammy Wanjiru (left/photo by Paul Merca) from Kenya spoke to members of the international media on October 17, 2009 at the Nike Spring 2010 Global Media Summit in San Francisco, less than a week after winning the Chicago Marathon.

Wanjiru ran the fastest time on American soil, finishing in 2 hours, 5 minutes, 41 seconds, and collected a big bonus check of $100,000 in addition to the $75,000 first prize.

Wanjiru hopes to run the Berlin Marathon in 2010 and take a shot at Haile Gebreselassie's world record.

Wanjiru, who lives and trains most of the year in Japan, was the first Kenyan to win the Olympic marathon title last year in Beijing, running an Olympic record 2:06:32 on a hot day.
