Glacier Peak HS standout Amy-Eloise Neale named to British squad for world cross...

UPDATE (8:00 am, 3/12/13) British Athletics announced its squad Tuesday morning--the release announcing Amy-Eloise Neale's selection to the squad that will compete at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships is available here.

Glacier Peak HS senior and University of Washington commit Amy-Eloise Neale (left, #2 in dark jersey/photo by Paul Merca) will represent Great Britain at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland on March 24th.

Neale finished fourth at the McCain World Cross Country Trials in Birmingham, England on Saturday March 9th, running 20:15 over the 6k distance in very muddy conditions, as Emilia Gorecka, last year's bronze medalist at the IAAF world junior championships in the 3000 meter run in Barcelona, took the victory in 19:41.

At a media gathering before the Brooks PR meet in Seattle, Neale revealed that she was flying to Great Britain to run in her country's world cross country championship trials, inspired in part, by how her US high school peers, including Michigan's Erin Finn, and future Husky teammate Katie Knight of Spokane's North Central HS, fared at last month's USA cross country championships in St. Louis.

Neale won the mile at the Brooks PR meet at the Dempsey Indoor on the campus of the University of Washington on February 24th in a time of 4:45.89.

The top four finishers were awarded berths on the British squad, with the other two spots selected by committee.
