Centrowitz eighth & Buchalski tenth at USATF 5k road championships...

NEW YORK—University of Washington volunteer assistant coach Matthew Centrowitz (left/photo by Paul Merca) ran to an eighth place finish Saturday morning at the USATF 5k road championships, hosted by the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line and the New York Road Runners.

Cantrowitz ran 14:02 on the course that started on Manhattan’s east side by the United Nations, then along 42nd Street past historic Grand Central Terminal and up the world-famous Avenue of the Americas past Radio City Music Hall. It then passes through the rolling hills of Central Park before finishing at the iconic TCS New York City Marathon finish line.

World and Olympic 5000m medalist Paul Chelimo, along with U.S. Army teammates Shadrack Kipchirchir and Stanley Kebenei, jumped to the lead and pushed a very fast early pace, which split the field into two packs. Kirubel Erassa, Emmanuel Bor and a few other athletes, including Centrowitz tried to keep pace with the trio up front, but by the mile it was clear those three would dominate the rest of the way.

Chelimo took the win in 13:45, followed by Kipchirchir in the same time, with Kebenei third in 13:53.

Dillon Maggard of the Brooks Beasts finished 18th in 14:24, while teammate David Ribich was 23rd in 14;50.

In the women’s race, Allie Buchalski of the Brooks Beasts led a trio of runners across the line with her tenth place finish in 16:09. Jessica Tonn of the Brooks Beasts finished 11th in 16:15, with Washington alum Mel Lawrence 12th in 16:20.

Fellow Husky alum Eleanor Fulton was 18th in 16:41.

Emily Sisson took the win in 15:38 over Erika Kemp in 15:50, and Olympian Amy Cragg in 15:54.
