Central's Erykah Weems & Eastern's Jonah Mathews double winners at Idaho Open...
Weems, the reigning conference champ outdoors in the 400 hurdles, couldn't have been closer to breaking the program's indoor record in the 200-meter dash. Weems ran a 25.00, tying Ali Anderson's mark as the best in school history. The mark was strong enough to win the event, and put her as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference leader.
Weems also took home the top spot in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.97. Weems also competed in the 60-meter dash, where she took fourth with a time of 7.87.
"Erykah [Weems] had a busy day and put up a lot of solid performances," CWU head coach Kevin Adkisson said. "It was a great day for her."
Eagle senior Jonah Mathews was a double winner, taking titles in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.93 in the finals and the 200 with a time of 22.02 to rank 10th in EWU history.
Also winning an individual men's championship for the Eagles was Grant Shurtliff in the pole vault (16-4.75/5.00m), while Samantha Raines, the current Big Sky leader, won the women's vault (12-7.5/3.85m) and Vernice Keyes came away victorious in the women's weight throw with a throw of 56-11.5 (17.36m).
Washington State's Skyler Walton posted a win for the Cougars in the women's 60-meter dash, with a PR of 7.72 overall. Samantha King-Shaw picked up the victory in the 3000-meter race as she posted an overall time of 10:32.98 to lead the Cougs.
Daylon Hicks took home first place in the men's high jump, with a PR mark of 6-feet 7-inches (2.01m).
Gonzaga got a win in the mens mile, with Evan Bates winning in 4:14.09.
