Huskies add Stanford grad Max Manson to its pole vault group...
The University of Washington's pole vault group just added another athlete to its stable with the announcement that NCAA qualifier Max Manson (photo courtesy Stanford Athletics) from Stanford will join the team in January in time for both the 2024 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Manson was a three time Pac-12 scorer in the pole vault for the Cardinal, placing fifth in 2021, second in 2022, and fifth this past spring before graduating.
He qualified for the NCAA championship meet outdoors in 2022, where he finished 21st with a best of 16-10.75 (5.15m).
Manson set his collegiate best of 17-9.75 (5.43m) at the Ken Shannon Invitational in late February.
While it's not listed on either his TFRRS or World Athletics profile, his Stanford bio states that he's cleared 18-0.5 (5.50m), set at a small meet in Boulder, Colorado in 2022.
Manson joins a Husky men's pole vault group that includes grad transfers Mathis Bresko, the 2023 Big West champ from Cal Poly who has a personal best of 18-1 (5.51m), and Simon Park, an Ivy League scorer from Harvard whose personal best is 17-5 (5.31m), as well as a women's group that includes Hana and Amanda Moll, the first two to ever clear 15 feet as high schoolers, and Nastassja Campbell, who was last year's NCAA outdoor runner-up.
Max's father Pat was a world class vaulter in the 1990s who placed sixth in the 1997 world championships in Athens, and won the Pan Am Games title.
Manson will have one season of indoor and one outdoor season of eligibility for the Huskies.
