NEW ORLEANS--With all nine regional championships finished Friday, and the field set for this Saturday's NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Verona, Wisconsin, the USTFCCCA released its final regular season coaches' poll Monday morning.
The Washington men's squad, which won its second NCAA West Regional title in school history on Friday, remained at number 12.
Nathan Green (Bobby Alworth/WSU Athletics photo) led the way for the Huskies, moving seven places over the final lap of the Colfax Golf Course to finish seventh, which turned out to be the difference between the Dawgs winning and a probable third place finish.
The Huskies won the closely contested meet by a 66-68-73 count over second place Oregon and third place Stanford.
The nation's top five men's teams heading into the national championships are in order: BYU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Iowa State, and New Mexico.
Other Big Ten teams ranked include number 7 Wisconsin, number 9 Stanford, and number 15 Oregon.
The Washington women, which finished third at the West Regionals, dropped out of the national top five to number six.
Meanwhile, Gonzaga, which finished one spot behind the Huskies, moved up one spot to number 20 in the national poll.
The nation's top five teams going into the national championship race are in order: BYU, West champ Oregon, Northern Arizona, West Virginia, and Notre Dame.
Other Big Ten teams ranked in the national top 30 include number 8 Stanford, number 14 Wisconsin, number 19 Penn State, Michigan State, number 23 Minnesota, and number 29 Michigan State.
The NCAA Division I cross country championships will be televised starting at 6:30 am Saturday on ESPNU and on the ESPN app.
