AUSTIN, Texas -- Matt Lamb (left/photo courtesy Washington State University), a senior at WSU, finished fifth in the men's discus Friday at the 83rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas Austin campus.

Lamb, a three-time All-American discus thrower from Emmett, Idaho, spun the platter 185-feet, 3 inches (56.47m) for fifth place. Kansas freshman Mason Finley won the discus with a toss of 191-0 (58.22m).

In the men's 100m dash preliminary heats, Marlon Murray (junior, Des Moines, Wash.) ran a season-best time of 10.61w seconds (wind of 3.5 meters per second) for 20th place and Greg Hornsby (freshman, Moreno Valley, Calif.) ran a time of 10.76w (3.2 mps) for 32nd place.

Princess Joy Griffey (senior, Federal Way) finished 18th in the women's 100m dash prelims with a season-best time of 11.77w (3.7 mps).

It wasn't Holly Parent's day as the freshman high jumper from Victoria, B.C., tied for fifth place after clearing the bar at 5-7 1/4 (1.71m) on her third and final attempt.

UW freshman Joe Zimmerman still made it a noteworthy day with a very strong collegiate debut. The Spokane, Wash. native took fourth in the B-flight of the javelin.

Zimmerman, the 2009 Washington State 4A champion out of Lewis & Clark High School, threw 213-feet, 7-inches on his third attempt. He had two other throws over 200-feet on his fifth and sixth attempts of the day as well.

More Cougars and Huskies will compete in both track and field events Saturday at the Texas Relays.
