Ingvill Måkestad opens 2011 indoor season in Birmingham...

BIRMINGHAM, England--Former Washington Husky Ingvill Måkestad (photo courtesy runingvill.wordpress.com) makes her 2011 season debut at Saturday's Aviva Indoor Grand Prix Saturday at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

Måkestad will contest the 1500 meter run, where she'll face former Florida State standout Hannah England, Abeba Aregawi from Ethiopia, and Irene Jelagat from Kenya.

Måkestad has spent the last month training in South Africa, after an outstanding season in 2010 where she broke the Norwegian national record in the 800 (1:59.82), and came close to the national record in the 1500 meters outdoors held by Grete Waitz, as she ran 4:02.20 in Rieti, Italy.

In last year's meet in Birmingham, she set her indoor personal best of 4:11.0.

Among the highlighted events is an attempt by Great Britain's Mo Farah to break the British record in the 5000 meters of 13:21.27 set by Nick Rose in New York 29 years ago.

Farah will face former Oregon Duck standout Galen Rupp in this matchup.
