NCAA D2 steeple All American Dani Eggleston leads Wildcat women to CWU Invitational team title...
YAKIMA—Central Washington’s Dani Eggleston (above/photo courtesy Central Washington University) won the women’s title at the CWU Apple Ridge Run Saturday, and led the Wildcats to the team title 22-34 over GNAC rival Western Washington.
Eggleston, who was an NCAA D2 All-American in the steeplechase for the Wildcats last spring, cruised through the 4k course in 15:00, two seconds ahead of teammate Erin Chinchar.
Western Washington freshman Tracy Melville was third in 15:08, followed by Central’s Megan Rogers (15:12). The Vikings’ Brittany Grant (15:44) and Taylor Guenther (15:45) went 5-6 followed by Central’s Stephanie Rexus (15:47) and Elena Gomez (15:51).
Rounding out the scoring for Western were Lillianna Stelling in ninth (15:53) and Alexandra Laiblin (16:00) in eleventh.
In the men’s 6k, Brad Hodkinson of Pacific Lutheran won the individual title in 19:41, followed by unattached runner Michael Chinchar (20:06).
Western Washington put five runners in the top ten, led by freshman Nick Mounier, who was third in 20:24. Central’s top runner was freshman Jonathan Lafferty in ninth (20:57).
The Vikings won the men’s team title with 22 points, followed by the Wildcats with 49 points.
Both Central and Western Washington will compete in the open section of the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park in Seattle on September 19th.
