Rosemary Longisa signs NIL deal with Seattle based Brooks Running...
Washington State's NCAA 1500 meter champion Rosemary Longisa (Peter Njoroge/Athletics Kenya photo) has signed a name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal with the Seattle based athletic shoe company, according to Kenyan sources attending their national championships, which ended June 20th.
Longisa, who ran the fastest 1500 meters in NCAA Division I this season at 4:02.55 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in April, continued her hot streak, winning every final contested during the outdoor season after finishing second at the NCAA indoor championships in the mile.
At the NCAA championships, Longisa ran from the front, controlling the field before unleashing a 59.08 last 400 to win the NCAA title in 4:12.10.
Her victory made her the first NCAA champion at Washington State under head coach Wayne Phipps’ leadership. Her win was the first by a WSU woman since Whitney Evans took the high jump crown in 2003, and the first by a Cougar since Jeshua Anderson won the men's 400 hurdles in 2011.
A few days after her victory, she announced that she was transferring to Iowa State to join WSU women's cross country and distance coach Laura Harmon, who was announced as the school's head women's cross country and assistant track coach the day after the NCAA championships.
On June 20th, a week after the NCAA championships, Longisa finished third at the Kenyan national championships in Nairobi. She ran 4:10.01 at altitude with little time to adapt after coming from the USA and lower altitude.
At the Kenyan championships, she was spotted competing in Brooks gear.
Her placing assured her a spot on Kenya's Commonwealth Games team, where she will compete in the mile.
A formal announcement is expected from Brooks.
