Nathan Green joins the sub 3:50 mile club with win at Ostrava Golden Spike...


In Ostrava, Czechia, Washington alum Nathan Green (photo courtesy Ostrava Golden Spike) joined the ranks of the American sub 3:50 milers as he won the mile race at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet Tuesday night.

After the two pacemakers took the field through the first 800 in 1:53.43, former Eugene resident Vince Ciattei took command, and held the lead through 1500, in 3:34.92, with Green close behind in 3:35.00.

As they charged to the line, Green outleaned Ciattei to get the win and his first career sub-3:50 clocking, running 3:49.44 to set a new meet record.

Ciattei finished second in 3:49.51, and Anass Essayi of Morocco was third in 3:49.94.

Washington alum Joe Waskom was 15th in 4:01.39.

In the women's pole vault, defending world champion and former Pullman resident Katie Moon was fifth with a best of 14-9 (4.50m), as Imogen Ayris of New Zealand won with a best of 15-7 (4.75m).

Waskom and Green, who have been training in Stockholm, Sweden for the last few weeks, are off next to Zagreb, Croatia for the Boris Hanžeković Memorial meet on June 26th.


TANNER NAMED TO NEW ZEALAND'S COMMONWEALTH GAMES TEAM...

Former Washington Husky Sam Tanner was named by Athletics New Zealand to its Commonwealth Games team, according to a release by the federation.

He will compete in the men's mile at the Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland. The track and field competition at the Commonwealth Games take place July 27th through August 1st.
