Allie Ostrander makes USA cross country team with fourth place finish in Virginia...
RICHMOND, Virginia--Seattle resident Allie Ostrander (Mike Scott photo) worked her way through the pack to finish fourth at the USA Cross Country Championships, contested at Pole Green Park Saturday afternoon to earn a spot on the US national team that will contest the world cross country championships in Belgrade, Serbia in late March.
Ostrander, who made a US world championship team in the steeplechase in 2019, finished the first of five 2k loops in 12th place, then kept moving up, finding herself in seventh place at the 6k mark.
Entering the final lap, Ostrander found herself in fifth place, but in a three way battle for the final two positions for the trip to Serbia with Callie Logue and Abby Nichols.
Ostrander, a former member of the Brooks Beasts, finished fourth in 33:53, with Logue fifth also in 33:53, and Nichols grabbing the final spot to Belgrade in 34:10.
Former New Mexico standout Weini Kelati took the victory in 32:59.
In the men's under-20 8k race, Gonzaga's Logan Law finished 11th in 24:52.
In Moscow, Idaho, Washington State athletes captured three wins, while Eastern Washington grabbed a pair of victories, and Central earned a win in the final day of competition at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open meet at the Kibbie Dome, hosted by the University of Idaho.
Nana Gyedu captured her first shot put win of the season, finishing with a mark of 48-0.75 (14.65m). Eli Lawrence had the men's triple jump title locked up going into his final attempt when he finished his day with a mark of 50-8.75 (15.46m), the eighth-best indoor mark in Washington State men's track and field history.
Mason Lawyer led a Cougar 1-2-4 finish in the men's 60 meter dash, running 6.75, just ahead of freshman Grant Buckmiller's 6.79, and hurdler John Parades' 6.84.
Eastern Washington got their two wins in the women's vertical jumps, as Grace Bruno won the high jump at 5-7.25 (1.71m), and Savannah Schultz won the pole vault at 12-4 (3.76m).
Multi event specialist Drew Klein gave Central Washington its only win of the day in the heptathlon, completing the two-day, seven event competition with a final score of 5198 points, well over the NCAA D2 provisional mark of 4710 points.
Klein's score is currently the ninth best in NCAA Division II.
