WSU, Central & Eastern head to Idaho for Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open...
It's a light weekend for the state's nine Division I and II schools, as only Washington State, Eastern Washington, and Central Washington are in action.
The Cougars, Eagles, and Wildcats all head to Moscow, Idaho for Friday and Saturday's Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open meet, hosted by the University of Idaho.
Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Friday, with the women's pentathlon and 20 minutes later with the first four events of the men's heptathlon.
The main portion of the meet Friday starts at 4:30 pm with the men's and women's miles.
The other track races offered Friday night include the 200s, 3000s, and the distance medley relays. On the field, the weight throws, long jumps, and the men's vertical jumps will be contested.
Competition resumes Saturday morning with more of the men's heptathlon, including the 60-meter hurdles at 9:50 a.m. Qualifying for the women's 60-meter races begin at 11:10 a.m. to kick off Saturday's running events.
One runner to keep an eye on in the early part of the season is Central Washington's Johan Correa (Paul Merca file photo), who was the revelation of this past fall's cross country season.
Correa has already made waves so far, after finishing second in the 3000 at last week's Spokane Indoor Challenge in a school record 8:23.22 behind Gonzaga's Mason Kissell, a mark that is currently second in the GNAC conference.
The Division II cross country All American looks to get himself into position for a NCAA D2 provisional mark in the mile, which stands at 4:09.80.
