All four Eastern Washington schools in action at The Podium this weekend...


The state's four Division I and II schools east of the Cascades are in action starting on Thursday at The Podium in Spokane, while Washington is the only West side school competing this weekend.

Washington State, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga and Central Washington head to The Podium for the Riverfront Invitational Thursday through Saturday.

Thursday's competition solely focuses on the multi-events, with Eastern Washington's Cody Teevens (Paul Merca photo) entered in the heptathlon, and Sydney Macdonald in the pentathlon. Washington State's Sarah Kovich in the pentathlon is the Cougars' lone multi-event entry.

Friday's portion consisting of the conclusion of the heptathlon, plus three field events (weight throw, long jump and high jump), and four running events (800, 200, 5000 & distance medley).

Saturday, all remaining events will be contested.

Media partner RunnerSpace.com ($) will stream the Riverfront Invitational starting Thursday at noon.


Washington State will also send a small contingent to Albuquerque for Friday & Saturday's New Mexico Collegiate Classic at the Albuquerque Convention Center. That group is led by pole vaulters Eva Lowder and Tatum Moku, along with heptathletes Mason Mahacek and Lee Walburn. Triple jumper Eli Lawrence and shot putter Ronald Grueso Mosquera are making the trip for the Cougs as well.

The Brooks Beasts, who are already in Albuquerque for their annual mid-winter altitude training camp, have Valery Tobias in the women's 800 and Brandon Miller in the mile. Mountlake Terrace HS alum Chinne Okoronkwo is also entered in the women's pole vault.

Washington's sprints, jumps, and throws group heads to Lincoln, Nebraska for Friday & Saturday's Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the campu of the University of Nebraska.

While they have competed in multiple individual events so far this season, both NCAA scorer Bruno Comin Pescador and Pac-12 scorer Jami Schuleter will compete in their first heptathlon of the season.

Friday's heptathlon competition gets underway at 10 am Pacific time (noon local time).


In other news, Central Washington's women's team dropped two spots in the latest USTFCCCA Division II indoor track & field ranking index from number 15 to 17. The Wildcats and Simon Fraser at number 13 are the only two teams from the GNAC ranked in either the men's or women's polls.
