Nathan Green continues winning streak in Zagreb Friday night...

In Zagreb, Croatia, Washington alum Nathan Green (photo courtesy Boris Hanžeković Memorial Meeting) bided his time and took his second straight win on his European tour, emerging victorious in the men's 1500 at the The Boris Hanžeković Memorial meet Friday night.

Running in a large field of 20 athletes that included training partners Sam Prakel and Joe Waskom, the two pacemakers took the field through 400 in 55 and 1:53.99 at 800.

Green was in prime position in about third to make a move as Pieter Sisk of Belgium took the lead through the 1200 in 2:50.99.

As he did in Ostrava, Green made his decisive move with about 150 meters to go, swinging to the outside of lane 1 to hold off Romain Mornet of France and Muhdin Werku of Ethiopia.

Green crossed the line in a season best 3:32.46, while Mornet was second in 3:32.53, and Werku third in 3:32.71.

Seattle resident Prakel, who is one of Green's training partners, was fifth in 3:32.90, despite having to swing out to lane 4 over the last 100 to find running room for the final sprint.

Fellow UW alum Waskom finished 13th in a season best 3:34.28.

KERR AND THOIRS NAMED TO SCOTTISH COMMONWEALTH GAME TEAM...

As expected, Josh Kerr of the Seattle based Brooks Beasts, was named to Scotland's team for the Commonwealth Games, which will be hosted by Scotland in Glasgow at the end of July.

Kerr, a former world champion and two-time Olympic medalist in the 1500 meters, was named to join fellow Scots Jake Wightman and Neil Gourley, both of whom were pre-selected to the team last month.

The three will contest the mile, which will be run instead of the 1500 at the Commonwealth Games.

In a mild surprise, Washington alum Jax Thoirs was selected for Scotland's team, twelve years after last competing in the Commonwealth Games, which coincidentally was held in Glasgow in 2014.

Thoirs, a 2016 graduate of the UW, where he won the NCAA indoor title that year, has competed sparingly since 2020. In fact his World Athletics profile shows three meets competed since 2020, the last being on February 14th, where he was second at the British indoor championships with a best of 17-10.5 (5.45m).

In fact, Thoirs' personal best of 18-6.5 (5.65m) was set way back in 2015, when he cleared the height twice that season, the first being at the Pac-12 championships at UCLA.
