CJ Allen finishes sixth in 400H at USATF Lone Star Grand Prix in College Station...


COLLEGE STATION, Texas--
Washington State alum CJ Allen (Paul Merca file photo) finished sixth in the men's 400 hurdles at the USATF Lone Star Grand Prix in humid EB Cushing Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University.

Competing against a field that included last year's NCAA 400 hurdles champion Ezekiel Nathaniel of Nigeria, along with American Trevor Bassitt, Nathaniel and Bassitt battled to the line.

Nathaniel won by 2/100ths of a second as both were credited with a time of 47.37.

Allen finished with a season best of 48.58.

In the only other race of the Lone Star Grand Prix involving an athlete with Washington ties, Sam Whitmarsh of the Brooks Beasts, making his return to the school where he competed at as an undergraduate, finished eighth in the men's 800.

Whitmarsh, last year's NCAA champion at 800 meters for the Aggies of Texas A&M, finished in a time of 1:49.52, as Navasky Anderson of Jamaica, who was seventh at the world championships in Tokyo last year, won in 1:46.33.
