Marisa Howard makes victorious return to competition at Portland Track Festival...
PORTLAND--In her first steeplechase since the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Pasco native Marisa Howard (Paul Merca file photo) won her event Sunday night at the Portland Track Festival at Griswold Stadium on the campus of Lewis & Clark College.
With a group of six around her through the first two laps, Howard, who missed all of 2025 while on maternity leave, moved like she'd never left, pulling away to win in 9:38.20.
Other highlights:
--In Saturday night's 10000 meter race, Gonzaga alum James Mwaura ran his fastest time in five years in a second place finish.
Mwaura ran 27:55.98 to finish behind Chandler Gibbens, who won in 27:55.08.
--Washington alum Luke Houser dropped his 800m personal best in the 800, running 1:45.72 in a second place finish to his Atlanta TC teammate Rynard Swanepoel's 1:45.64.
--Current Husky Tyrone Gorze won the invitational men's 5000 in a season best 13:40.15;
--Washington's Mia Cochran was seventh in the women's 1500, running 4:08.36;
--In the evening's final race, Washington's Thomas Diamond was fifth in the men's 1500, running a personal best 3:38.15. Alum Aidan Ryan was tenth in 3:40.87, while Reuben Reina Jr. of the Huskies twelfth in 3:41.55.
