WEEKEND WRAPUP: Former Husky Jack Rowe wins British Euro cross country championship trials...

With a very light schedule happening due to the Thanksgiving holiday, here's a recap of what happened over the weekend.

In Liverpool, England on Saturday, Jack Rowe (photo courtesy British Athletics), who ran for the University of Washington as a graduate transfer in the 2019-20 season, won the British European Cross Country championship trials race.

Rowe completed the 9.8k course in 28:05, winning by an 11-second margin. With his victory, he earned an automatic berth on Great Britain's team for the European Athletics cross country championships in Dublin, Ireland on December 12th.

Rowe told British Athletics after his victory, “We got here, had some nice weather, I was a bit worried it was going to be a mudbath with all the rain yesterday, but the course was really good, it was firm, it was fast.

“It went out pretty slow, (runner-up Andy) Butchart came through and really picked the pace up and it thinned out quite quickly.

“It was nice to race him, I have been on the back end of Andy quite a while now so it was nice to actually get a win.”

Earlier in the week, current Husky Brian Fay was named to Ireland's national team for the European Athletics cross country championships, according to a release posted on the Athletics Ireland site.

Fay earned All-America honors as he finished 38th at the NCAA Division I cross country championships in Tallahassee, Florida on November 20th, running 29:30 for the 10k course.

Outside of Adelaide, Australia, Washington alum and Tokyo Olympian Izzi Batt-Doyle opened up her 2022 outdoor season by winning the South Australia state 5000 meter championship for the second year in a row, running 15:41.29 to defeat Caitlin Adams, who ran 15:49.42.

Results of the South Australia state 5000m championships are available here.
