Katie Nageotte (Paul Merca photo), Gianna Woodruff, Devon Allen and Josh Kerr lead the list of athletes with Washington state ties who were ranked by Track and Field News in the publication's annual world and US rankings released this week.
Olympic gold medalist Nageotte, who trained in Pullman under former Washington State jumps coach Brad Walker, was ranked number one in the world in the pole vault.
Washington alum Gianna Woodruff, who make the finals in the 400 hurdles, and broke the Panamanian national record in that event, was ranked eighth in the world by the magazine.
On the men's side, former Renton resident Devon Allen was ranked number 3 in the world, and second in the US in the 110 hurdles, where he finished fourth in the Olympic Games final.
Josh Kerr of the Seattle based Brooks Beasts, who won the Olympic bronze medal in the 1500, was ranked number 7 in the world by the magazine in his event.
Women with Washington ties who earned US rankings from Track & Field News include: Nia Akins (10) in the 800; Marisa Howard (5), Mel Lawrence (8), Allie Ostrander (9), and Katie Rainsberger (10) in the steeplechase; Allie Buchalski (7) in the 5000; Olivia Gruver (4) in the pole vault; and Kara Winger (2) in the javelin.
The men with Washington ties who earned US rankings from the publication include: Brannon Kidder (5) in the 800; Henry Wynne (5) and Sam Prakel (6) in the 1500; Jake Riley (10) in the marathon; Daniel Nehnevaj (2) in the 20-k walk; Allen James (4) in the 50-k walk; Brock Eager (7) in the hammer; and Denham Patricelli (6) in the javelin.
