Lake Stevens native Taylor Roe runs (way) early world leading mark in 3000m at Wooo Pig Classic...

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas--
Lake Stevens HS graduate Taylor Roe of Oklahoma State University helped kick off the 2021-22 collegiate indoor track & field season by winning the women's 3000 meters at the Wooo Pig Classic Friday afternoon, hosted by the University of Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

Roe took command just past the 2000 meter mark to take the victory in 8:58.58, a huge personal best, and the first collegian under 9 minutes in this new season.

For what it's worth, her time is also the fastest indoor time in the world in the 2021-22 season, with the other big indoor distance race on tap Saturday as Boston University hosts the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.

University of Washington grad transfer Sophie Cantine was fifth in the race in 9:29.19, while sophomore Madison Heisterman was seventh in her first collegiate attempt at this distance, running 9:31.56.

In the women's 5000, Washington alum Katie Rainsberger did the pacing for the first 3000 meters, going through in 9:23 before current Husky Allie Schadler (photo courtesy Arkansas Athletics) went to the front.

Schadler could not hold on to the lead, as Arkansas' Lauren Gregory won in 15:34.58, with Schadler second in a personal best 15:50.59, a lifetime best, and the second fastest indoor time in school history.

Yakima native Jonas Price of Oklahoma State won the men's 3000 in 8:11.80.

In Cheney, Eastern Washington's Race Treat, who is competing unattached, is the current day 1 leader in the men's heptathlon at the Candy Cane Multis meet at Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse on the Eastern Washington campus Friday.
