Huskies' Jonathan Frazier posts top time in 400 hurdles qualifying at USA U-20s...

Washington freshman Jonathan Frazier (Paul Merca photo) ran the fastest time in the qualifying round of the men's 400 hurdles at the USATF U20 championships, which got underway Wednesday at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Frazier, a scorer for the Huskies at the Pac-12 Championships, ran 51.62 to win heat 1 over Jayden Douglas of Texas Christian, who ran 52.00.

As expected, Emerald Ridge HS's JaiCieonna Gero-Holt, the reigning USA U20 heptathlon champion, went to the lead after four events with a score of 3465 points.

Gero-Holt ran 14.57 to finish second in the 100 hurdles, then rattled off three straight event wins, taking the high jump at 6-0.75 (1.85m), shot put at 42-8 (13.00m), and the 200 in 25.99.

Advancing to finals on Thursday included Washington State's Grant Buckmiller in the men's 400 in 46.56; Washington's Kapiolani Coleman (59.85) and Bear Creek HS's Braelyn Baker (59.14) in the 400 hurdles; and the University of Puget Sound's Alexander Rhodes, who ran 46.59 in the men's 400.

In field event finals contested, King's HS grad Adrianna Coleman of Cal was fourth in the women's hammer at 182-9 (55.72m).

The women's pole vault saw Harvard commit Ella McRitchie of Bainbridge Island finish 
third at 14-3.25 (4.35m), while Washington State freshman Eva Lowder tied for seventh at 13-7.25 (4.15m).

Camas' Gavin Dimick, the Washington 4A pole vault champ, was twelfth at 15-11 (4.85m), while Washington State's Gavin Dimick didn't clear the opening height of 15-11.

Skyline HS's Sydney Collier finished 11th in the women's steeple in 11:24.88.


In Rome, Washington alum Brian Fay finished 20th in the finals of the men's 10000 on the final day of the European Championships.

Fay ran 28:40.53, as Switzerland's Dominic Lobalu won in 28:00.32.
