Washington grad Luke Houser stays home and signs with Brooks Beasts...
SEATTLE--"That Houser dude is a beast!", someone yelled in the stands at the TRACK at new balance in Boston after Luke Houser (photo courtesy Brooks Running) won his second NCAA straight indoor mile title back in March.
Fast forward to today, and that Houser dude is a beast.
A Brooks Beast.
Seattle based Brooks Running announced that Washington alum Luke Houser has signed with the company, and will join the Brooks Beasts, wearing their kit in the first round of the men's 1500 at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene on Friday afternoon.
The Woodinville native has been an integral part of the Huskies' growing program of elite milers, helping the school coin the term “Mile City” after he and seven of his teammates went under four minutes in the event on home turf at the UW Invitational last year, before repeating their performance in January, where Luke placed first and minted a new school record of 3:51.73.

The news marks a significant step in Brooks’ investment in the Seattle community and its athletes ahead of the US Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon where Houser is set to compete in the 1500m.
The Beasts, coached by Danny Mackey, have continued to push the pace in the middle- and long-distance field, with Houser joining teammates Josh Kerr, Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist and indoor 2-mile world record holder; Nia Akins, ranked seventh in the world in the 800m and reigning national champion; Kirkland native Dillon Maggard, and UW track alum Kayley Delay.
"I am very excited to be starting my next chapter with the Brooks Beasts and represent my hometown. This is a team that is driven to be the best, which is what I want with my career,” said Houser. “I was amazed with the enthusiasm that everyone at Brooks has, and I am confident that this support will help elevate my performance to the next level."
A hint that Houser was signing with Brooks was when he was seen at last week's training session at the UW (Paul Merca photo) wearing Brooks spikes and flats while wearing UW team issue apparel.
