WSU & UW women stay in USTFCCCA national top 30, while no men's teams are represented...
NEW ORLEANS--After a championship Friday which saw Washington State (Tyler McFarland/Pac 12 photo) win the Pac-12 cross country title, and Washington finish fourth at the B1G Ten championships, both women's teams stayed in the national top 30 in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I coaches poll released Tuesday.
The Cougars, who were ranked number 13 in the previous poll, dropped four spots to number 17 after a closer than expected conference championship meet in Boise, where WSU won by a 50-62 count over host Boise State on October 30th.
Boise State was helped by the addition of fifth year runners Kaiya Robertson and Nannette Novak, who, thanks to a court ruling the day before, were ruled eligible. Both Boise State runners were part of the Wisne vs NCAA case concerning the eligibility of athletes in all sports from the high school class of 2022, who were caught in the NCAA's new five seasons in five years eligibility rules.
While the Cougars dropped, the results from other meets around the country wasn't enough to pull Boise State into the national top 30.
Meanwhile, the Washington Huskies moved up three spots in the national poll from number 29 to 26 after a strong fourth place finish at the B1G Ten championship meet in Verona, Wisconsin.
The Dawgs got a win against a ranked opponent, which will come in handy after the regional championships on November 13th, as they beat previously 25th ranked Minnesota.
The women's national top five teams are in order: BYU, NC State, West Virginia, Alabama, and Florida.
B1G Ten teams in the national top 30 include number 11 Oregon, number 21 Northwestern, number 24 Penn State, and number 28 Minnesota.
For the first time all season, there are no Washington schools represented in the men's national top 30 after Washington's sixth place finish at the B1G Tens. Previously unranked Michigan finished fifth, ahead of the Huskies, who were ranked number 29.
Washington State did not help its cause at the Pac-12 championships after finishing third, despite All Americans Solomon Kipchoge and Evans Kurui finishing 1-3.
Pac 12 champ Gonzaga did not receive any national votes after their win, nor did second place Utah State.
The nation's top five men's teams are in order: New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Alabama, and Oregon.
Other B1G Ten teams in the national top 30 include number 12 Wisconsin, number 21 Michigan State, number 22 Minnesota, and number 28 Michigan.
The next poll will be released on November 17th after the nine regional championships are contested on November 13th.
