Reedus Thurmond resigns as throws coach at the University of Washington...

Just confirmed with a member of the UW sports information staff that Reedus Thurmond (left/photo courtesy University of Washington), who was the throws coach for the Washington track & field team, has resigned his position.

Thurmond originally came to Washington in December 2005 from Auburn University, where he was a graduate assistant while continuing to train and compete at the professional level.

During his tenure at the University of Washington, seven different athletes in the throwing events earned ten All-America honors, the last being javelin thrower Kyle Nielsen during the 2011 outdoor season.

It isn't known what Thurmond plans to do moving forward; currently, wife and Washington alum Aretha is in Guadalajara, Mexico competing as a member of Team USA at the Pan Am Games.

paulmerca.blogspot.com has contacted both Thurmond and Husky head track & field/cross country coach Greg Metcalf for a comment, but has not heard from either party.

Thurmond's name has been removed from the Huskies' list of coaches, though his bio is still up.

It is expected that the University will advertise the position shortly.
