Mackey and Piliusina win at Martin Luther King Collegiate Invite Saturday...
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico—Katie Mackey (left/photo by Paul Merca) won the women’s mile at the Dr. Martin Luther King Collegiate Invitational Saturday, hosted by the University of New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Mackey, competing in her season opening race, ran 4:35.50 in the altitude, which, pending the results of other meets this weekend, is the fourth fastest time in the world this season.
Among those that she beat in the race was reigning NCAA cross country champ Ednah Kurgat of host New Mexico, who ran 4:41.42.
Natalja Piliusina and Savannah Colón of the Beasts went 1-2 in the women’s 800, as the Oklahoma State alums ran 2:10.02 and 2:11.91.
The Beasts are away from Seattle and currently doing their annual altitude training stint in Albuquerque for the next month or so.
