NEW ORLEANS--The University of Washington women's cross country team (above/photo by Paul Merca) will enter Saturday's NCAA national championship race ranked as the country's number four team, according to the final USTFCCCA national coaches' poll released Monday.
There were no changes in the nation's top four teams after the various regional championship races around the country last Friday.
The nation's top five teams are Arkansas, Stanford, BYU, Washington, and Michigan State, which overtook North Carolina State for the number 5 spot.
Other Pac-12 teams in the national top 30 include number 10 Colorado, number 14 Utah, and number 18 Oregon.
On the men's side, the Huskies, thanks to a fourth place finish at the NCAA West Regionals in Colfax, moved up three positions to number 11 in the final regular season poll.
The nation's top five men's squads, as voted on the the coaches, are in order: defending champion Northern Arizona, Colorado, BYU, Stanford, and Portland.
Oregon at number 8 is the only other Pac-12 school ranked in the national top 30.
The NCAA Division I cross country championships will be contested this Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana, paulmerca.blogspot.com will be on site to cover the NCAA championship race.
