After fouling on her first attempt, Romain, a sophomore from Lacey's Timberline HS who qualified for the 2019 NCAA D2 outdoor championships in this event, jumped 40-6 (12.34m) to take the early 2020 national Division II lead, then followed it up in the third round with a new school record of 41-6 (12.65m) to surpass the auto standard of 41-2.25 (12.55m).
That mark is the second best all-time in GNAC conference history, behind Jasmine McMullin of Western Washington's 41-7.25 (12.68m) set in 2018. It also leads NCAA Division II.
Earlier in the day, Romain broke her own school record in the long jump, with a mark of 18-10.75 (5.76m), which is currently tied for ninth in Division II.
Washington State's Stephanie Cho, who was an NCAA qualifier in the 400 hurdles in 2018 before redshirting the 2018-19 season, won the 400 meters in a personal best 54.69.
Other women's winners included 2018 NCAA D2 championship scorer Halle Irvine of Central Washington's win in the pole vault with a mark of 12-1.5 (3.70m); Ashley Vest of Saint Martin's in the high jump (5-1/1.55m); and Samantha LaRue of Central Washington in the shot put (44-9.5/13.65m).
