NCAA announces field for D1 and D2 indoor champs; Huskies go to New Mexico with 10 entries plus wDMR...

INDIANAPOLIS--The NCAA announced on Tuesday the fields for both the Division I and II indoor track and field championships.

The Division I championships, hosted by the University of New Mexico, will be held March 13 and 14 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, while the Division II championships will be held March 13-14 in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The University of Montevallo and the City of Birmingham will serve as co-hosts of the championships.

DIVISION I

The University of Washington women's team, which is ranked number 7 in the latest USTFCCCA D1 indoor track & field rating index released Tuesday, will be led into Albuquerque by national leader Olivia Gruver (left/photo by Paul Merca), who will compete in her final collegiate competition, as she has no more eligibility remaining.

She will be joined in Albuquerque by Carley Thomas (800m), Katie Rainsberger, Allie Schadler & Melany Smart (3000m), and Hannah Rusnak (heptathlon).

The Huskies will also have a distance medley relay team comprising of Thomas, Rainsberger, Schadler and most likely either Olivia Ribera or Imani Apostol running the 400 leg.

On the men's side, Mick Stanovsek (mile), Jack Rowe (3000), Tanner Anderson (5000), and Chase Smith (pole vault) will represent the Dawgs.

Washington State has five athletes selected into the meet: Emmanuel Wells (m 60), Sam Brixey (m 60 hurdles); Leonie Reuter (w HJ); Kreete Verlin (w LJ); and, Charisma Taylor (w TJ).

Other athletes from the state of Washington in the meet include University Place native Lexi Ellis of Oregon (w TJ); Mountlake Terrace's Chinne Okoronkwo of Texas Tech (w PV); and Richland HS grad Larry Still of Utah Valley (m PV).

ESPN3 will stream the championships live starting at 7:15 p.m. Eastern time March 13 and starting at 6 p.m. Eastern time March 14.

DIVISION II

All four Washington GNAC schools will have at least one representative at the Division II championships in Birmingham.

Central Washington will have shot putter Samantha La Rue and Erykah Weems. while Saint Martin's will have Tyler Cronk in the high jump, and Keshara Romain in both the long and triple jumps.

Seattle Pacific's entries include Dania Holmberg in both the 3000 and 5000 meter runs, and Peace Igbonagwam in the long jump. Western Washington's lone entry is Aliyah Dawkins in the high jump.

Cronk is the lone male from any of the four GNAC schools in Washington to qualify for the Division II championships.
