Brooks Beasts adds NCAA 800m runner-up Laurie Barton from Clemson...

In an Instagram post, Brooks Beasts coach Danny Mackey announced that Clemson's Laurie Barton (photo by Paul Merca) will join the team and solidify its middle distance presence.

Mackey said, "One of the things that stood out and was unmistakable when Laurie and I first met was she wants to see how high her ceiling is in the sport. It might sound nonsensical but not all professional athletes have the same fire."

Barton finished second in the NCAA championships over 800 meters in Eugene, where she set her personal best of 2:00.65.

In the 2021 season, Barton, who came to Clemson after initially competing at Virginia Tech, won the 2020 ACC indoor title at 800m, then finished second in the 2021 NCAA indoor 800.

She won the ACC outdoor 800 title, where she ran 2:00.70, and finished her season with a second place finish at the NCAA championships in June.

Barton will join the Beasts in the fall.
