Hassan Mead's pro career ends with a USADA suspension...

COLORADO SPRINGS--
The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) Tuesday announced that former Puyallup resident and Emerald Ridge HS standout Hassan Mead (Paul Merca photo) has accepted a three-year period of ineligibility for an anti-doping rule violation.

According to USADA, Mead tested positive for ostarine (enobosarm) and LGD-4033 (ligandrol) metabolite di-hydroxy-LGD-4033 as the result of an out-of-competition urine sample collected on October 17, 2022.

Ostarine and LGD-4033 are Non-Specified Substances in the class of Anabolic Agents and are prohibited at all times under the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee National Anti-Doping Policy, and the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, all of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code and the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List.

According to Total Sports, the agency that represents Mead, he told them that he was retiring at the end of May.

Here's the text of the Total Sports statement, written by his agent Stephen Haas, as posted on the Twitter account of Chris Chavez, the editor & publisher of CitiusMag:

Mead filed paperwork with USA Track & Field and officially retired from competition on November 8th, six days after the suspension went into effect.

During his pro career, Mead, a graduate of the University of Minnesota, competed for the Eugene based Nike Oregon Track Club Elite. He made the 2016 US Olympic team in the 5000, and made three world championship teams, appearing for Team USA in Beijing, London and Doha. He won the NACAC title in the 5000m in Toronto in 2018.

KYLE LANGFORD NOW WITH BROOKS BEASTS...

In an announcement that escaped many people unless you paid close attention to the Instagram account of the Brooks Beasts, British 800 meter runner Kyle Langford (Paul Merca photo) has moved to Seattle and joined the Brooks Beasts.

The 26-year old Langford is a four time world championships competitor, with his highest placing a fourth place finish at the 2017 edition in London.

He won the British national title in 2015, propelling him to his first world championships appearance in Beijing.

Langford set his personal best at 800 meters of 1:44.49 this summer in Rovereto, Italy.

He joins a Beasts squad that includes fellow Brit and Olympic 1500 silver medalist Josh Kerr, and world championships competitors at 800 Brannon Kidder and Isaiah Harris.
