WASHINGTON & GONZAGA TO OPEN 2022-23 INDOOR SEASON IN BOSTON...

Both the Washington Huskies and the Gonzaga Bulldogs will send a handful of distance runners to Boston to compete in the opening weekend of the 2022-23 indoor track & field season at the Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener Saturday at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.

With many runners coming off the end of the cross country season two weeks ago, this meet gives runners, particularly in the distance events, an opportunity to take advantage of the fitness gains from cross country and aim for an NCAA top-16 mark before heading into the holiday break.

The headline event at the Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener is the men's and women's 5000 taking place on one of the country's fastest indoor facilities.

The Huskies are sending All-American Brian Fay, along with Kieran Lumb (Paul Merca photo), Isaac Green, and Aidan Ryan in the men's 5000, while Pac-12 800 meter champ Carley Thomas moves up in distance to the mile, and Anna Gibson, normally a 1500 specialist, moves up to the 3000.

The women's 3000 also features former Seattle Pacific All-American Kaylee Mitchell of Oregon State, and Woodinville native Olivia Markezich of Notre Dame. Both placed inside the top 20 at the NCAA cross country championships two weeks ago.

Yale grad transfer Kayley DeLay, an All-American in 2022 at the 3000 steeplechase, is entered as an unattached athlete in the women's 5000.

Husky volunteer assistant coaches Sam Prakel (5000m) and Alli Cash (mile/3000) are entered as well. Johnny Gregorek, who is being coached remotely by UW men's coach Andy Powell, is entered in the 5000.

Gonzaga's entries include Kristen Garcia, James Mwaura, Yacine Guermali and Dominic Arce. All are entered in the 5000.

Flotrack ($) will offer live streaming of the Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener, starting at 7:00 am Pacific.
