Cougars' Maribel Caicedo sharpens up for Paris Olympics in Luzern Tuesday...
In preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympics in a few weeks, Washington State's Maribel Caicedo (Paul Merca photo) returns to action Tuesday, July 16th at the Spitzen Leichtathletik meeting in Luzern, Switzerland.
Caicedo, the Ecuadorian national record holder in the 100 hurdles at 12.49 who finished second at the NCAA championships in Eugene last month, is entered in her specialty.
The Cougar will face off against a field that includes defending Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico; University of Arizona alum and Olympic Trials finalist Talie Bonds; and US Olympic Trials semifinalist Amber Hughes.
In her last race, Caicedo was third at the Gyulai István Memorial in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, where she ran 12.69 in a race that Camacho-Quinn won in 12.47.
Washington alum Carley Thomas, who was ninth in the women's 800 meters in Lignano on Sunday, races in the 800 against a field that includes fellow Australians Abbey Caldwell and Claudia Hollingsworth, and Americans Heather McLean and Sage Hurta-Klecker.
Seattle resident Sam Prakel, who finished second in the men's 1500 on Sunday in Lignano, is entered in the 1500 in Luzern, along with two time NCAA indoor mile champion Luke Houser.
Prakel and Houser, the Washington alum now competing for the Brooks Beasts, will face a field that includes some familiar faces from the NCAA including Mario Garcia Romo from Ole Miss and Spain; Australian Jack Antsey from Illinois State; and Morocco's Anass Essayi from South Carolina.
Flotrack ($) will stream the meet in the USA and Canada Tuesday morning (7/16) beginning at 11 am, Pacific time.
