Husky alum Izzi Batt-Doyle becomes third fastest Australian marathoner all-time in Valencia...

At Sunday's Valencia Marathon, University of Washington alum Izzi Batt-Doyle (Paul Merca photo) set a personal best 2:22:59 to finish eighth overall.

The mark also was the third fastest in Australian history, only behind the national record of 2:21:34 set by Sinead Diver two years ago in Valencia, and the 2:22:36 set by Benita Willis in 2006 in Chicago.

Batt-Doyle ran sub 17 5k splits for the first 25 kilometers, before hitting a patch of 10k where she ran 17:11 and 17:40.

From 35 to 40k, she ran 17:07, with the last 2.195k run in 7:22.

It was a tough go for Kirkland native Dillon Maggard of the Brooks Beasts, who ran 1:32:24 for 30k, then struggled mightily over the last 12+ kilometers, finishing in 2:59:59.

Maggard, running in his first ever marathon, was on sub 2:10 pace through 30k when he couldn't sustain the pace.

Maggard completed the race in 2:57:59.

Ethiopia's Megartu Alemu won the women's race in 2:16:49, while Kenya's Sabastian Sawe took the men's title in 2:02:05.
