Julie Stackhouse named as Brooks Beasts assistant coach...
SEATTLE--Fresh off a third place finish at Saturday's USATF National Club Cross Country Championships at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, and a 1-2 finish by Beasts Allie Buchalski and Kayley DeLay, the Seattle based Brooks Beasts announced Monday that Julie Stackhouse (center/photo courtesy Brooks Running) will join the team as an assistant coach, working with head coach Danny Mackey and assistant Julian Florez.
Stackhouse brings nearly twenty years of coaching experience to the Beasts, having worked as an assistant coach at Furman, the University of Virginia, the United States Air Force Academy, and the University of North Florida, before starting Stackhouse Fitness in Jacksonville, Florida.
“I can’t wait to join the Brooks Beasts as well as coach Mackey and his leadership team in my new role,” said Stackhouse in a release.
“Throughout the decade of partnership I’ve had at Brooks, I’ve enjoyed a front row seat to watching the trajectory the brand has taken to reach the highest levels of sport. I’m inspired by the Beasts’ goals of reaching their mountaintop as a team, and it is an honor to support them in pursuit of their dreams.”
In her new role with the team, Julie will work closely with the coaching staff and Beast athletes through workout sessions, altitude training, athlete development, recruiting and more. Her background in health and exercise science, mental performance coaching, and firsthand experience with accomplished athletes will be a valuable asset ahead of this season as the Beasts continue to deepen their middle- and long-distance bench.
One of her biggest accomplishments as a coach was working remotely with Jenna Hutchings as a high schooler in Tennessee.
Hutchings, currently at Brigham Young University, ran 15:34.47 in December 2020, while attending Science Hill HS in Johnson City. That mark was the national high school and U20 record before it was broken by Natalie Cook (15:25.93) of Flower Mound, Texas.
An outstanding high school standout in her own right in Hayesville, North Carolina, Stackhouse won 16 high school state championships before competing for Furman University in South Carolina from 1999-2002.
While at Furman, Stackhouse won the 800m outdoor championship in both 2000 and 2002 and set the Furman heptathlon record in 2002. She ran on the record-holding outdoor distance medley relay team and helped the Paladins to the 2000 SoCon cross country title.
“We are very excited to welcome Julie Stackhouse to the team this upcoming season. Adding another coach to the Beasts staff has been an important part of our long-term growth plan, and we’re thrilled to build on this year’s momentum to take the team to the next level,” said Beasts head coach Danny Mackey.
While new to the Beasts, she's worked with Brooks as a brand ambassador, in addition to her own private coaching business.
